This booklet is primarily intended to help people buying general ledger accounting software. It shows what the buyer has to look for, covering the main subjects: requirements of an accounting package, controls to be looked for, as well as hints for what to have in mind when buying a package that seems suitable.
The best features of the book are the numerous checklists (more than 50 percent of the material) and the glossary. What I do not like are statements like “the selection of hardware is not crucial (p. 2),” or the package “should not permit single-sided entries to be made (p. 4).”
Well, “in no way does the purchase of a package save the purchaser from the need to know and define his requirements (p. 21).” Replace “package” by “book,” use the checklists without clinging to them desperately, and the monograph will be very useful to you.
