This paper introduces a knowledge graph for traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) health preservation.

TCM plays a vital role in Chinese culture. With the development of information technology, plenty of systems and databases were constructed. However, there are still gaps between people’s needs and quality of services.

A knowledge graph is a huge knowledge system built on semantic networks that can handle big data. The authors apply a knowledge graph for TCM to integrate, organize, and visualize knowledge resources.

The TCM health care ontology is the basis for knowledge graph construction. The ontology covers the whole concept system and provides a framework. Some previous researchers have also built several databases for conserving traditional medicine knowledge and resources. Compared to previous research works, it can save time. They constructed the knowledge graph through ontology-based database integration, implemented the query, extended it through a semi-automatic process, and developed an editing tool for accuracy and completeness. You can find the system here: http://www.tcmkb.cn/kg/.

The knowledge graph enhances the connection between concepts and knowledge resources in the TCM domain. It is also “the core component of the question-answering system.” Users can browse the concepts further from the domain concept and get accurate answers in real time. They have also built an intelligent recommendation system based on the knowledge graph to make personalized recommendations for users in order to reduce the incidence of diseases.
