Computer supported qualitative research
Costa A., Reis L., de Sousa F., Moreira A., Lamas D., Springer International Publishing, New York, NY, 2016. 135 pp. Type: Book (978-3-319432-70-0)

Today both qualitative and quantitative research involves heavy use of computer tools. Learning about the tools used for deep qualitative research is important for researchers. This is an area of interdisciplinary research where computer science meets health sciences and other disciplines that use qualitative research.

This book is a collection of 12 chapters that deal with different topics on tools used for qualitative research. These individual topics describe a situation where a particular tool was used, along with analysis associated with the results of the experimentation. These chapters are very much separated from each other in terms of the content covered in them. In other words, this book is a compilation of short articles that describe the use of computer tools in qualitative research.

The book could have been much better if the editors had considered the following actions for compilation: a) including more chapters; b) dividing the book into sections that cover broader concepts; and c) including clear introductory chapters describing the field for every section.

Overall, the book needs improvement and is very much like a short set of articles in the area of computer tools being used in qualitative research. Hopefully, in the future, the editors will consider developing a stronger book in this area of research.
